Writing thoughts

Copyright by aussiegal

When you write, do your words come soaring out as light as feathers or must you wrench them from inside word for word? I admit to being the latter. Words come out with too much thought and care to be as light as feathers. They weigh me down, heavy as bricks clunking on to my page with the thud of inevitable rewrites. I envy those who can write free flowing, stream of consciousness without worrying endlessly over each word they write. For me this picture represents a goal that I will set for myself. After my final revisions are finally over and done with, I plan on starting my second novel next month, the one I put down years ago and am ready to pick up again. This picture is my reminder to relax and let the words come naturally. Try not to second guess each word I write then and there. Enjoy more, worry less. Perhaps in this way I can finish my next book in less then 5 years this time.

It used to be like prying the words out, but the constant practice and experimentation on my blog has loosened the flow. It's a bit like the light feeling you describe. I can get lost in it now. Before, I was much more weighed down.

Admirable goal! Great image!

For me it depends. Some days the words flow. But rarely. And not always words I'll end up keeping.

Good luck!

I experience both ways.
And the quality my writing seems to do nothing with way I write.
Sometimes what I try to master over and over again come out flat...
And yes, this is a good image to adhere to.

Ello, I listed you on my blog (szelsofa blog) and please reflect on whether you like the name you were given or not.
Also, I re-wrote the entry about family being a handicap.

I tend to agonize over ever word, at least during the rewrite stage. But it seems I never agonize enough. The words still come out wrong.

The wind beneath everyone's wings fails at times.
Like Jason, I have found blogging frees the jesses some of the time.

I have to tell my internal editor to "back off!" when I'm writing my first draft. I want to get lost in the story and the writing itself and not worry so much about everything else. When I go back and revise, though, that is when I graciously invite my internal editor back. :-)

I enjoy free-flow writing a chapter at a time. But I can't move on to the next chapter until I've done some editing.
It also depends on my mood. There are a few days a month (I think it's related to hormones, I'm not kidding) where I feel incredibly creative and write some good stuff. Then PMS and my period hit and the wave of creativity is over....

What a beautiful, inspirational photograph...it fits me so well (as you know..me and flying, soaring, floating....).
When I write, the best writing I do is when I'm not thinking and letting myself float...but then I have to go back and edit to make sure it makes sense...and then it's like using a socket set!!!

I'm much like you, although sometimes it flows and I'm totally submerged in the story I'm telling. Later, editing usually dampens my enthusiasm. :-) I agree with Jason, practice makes it easier, and also with Church Lady...
